What’s Been Happening at the Academy This Summer? Melinda Labo has begun to settle into her new role as our Head of School. If you want insight as to how she has positively impacted other families and students in her career please take a look HERE and see what those who know her say. “Your school community just hit the jackpot! There is no one quite like Mindy. Her heart of gold, love for education and her students is undeniable!”

Summer Teacher Enrichment and Development All homeroom teachers K - 5 have participated in the PBL 101 Workshop this summer. They have attended an intensive 3 day course learning how to teach through Project Based Learning. Teachers learned how to lead students through PBL instruction as an approach designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects set around challenges and problems they may face in the real world. Our Lead PBL & STEAM Curriculum Teacher, Ms. Cummings has been busy attending the PBL Coaching Workshop and will mentor and coach our homeroom teachers. She has also been developing the coding, robotics, tech, and engineering programs for this year.

Summer Project Updates Our Pre Kindergarten classrooms have been transformed into new, fresh, bright areas to ignite imagination and inspire inquiring minds. We look forward to our friends laughing, learning, and growing this year! We will continue to create an outdoor space where our PreK friends may learn through play.

We have made a significant investment into our STEM curriculum. Ms. Cummings has implemented a robust coding, robotics, and lego engineering curriculum that will spark student inspiration. All classrooms have been modified to accommodate collaborative learning and a makerspace has been cleared for engineering and project work with Ms. Cummings.

In addition to our PreK remodeled rooms, the STEAM building ramp is being rebuilt and two air conditioning units have been added to the grades 3 & 4 classrooms.

Master Schedule Update Welcoming a new Head of School has also allowed for small changes in the schedule. The Academy has decided to put more focus on the STEM portion of our curriculum. We feel that time is better spent focused on the engineering, coding, & robotics curriculum Ms. Cummings has developed for the academy. The STEM curriculum will replace the previously scheduled Mandarin class for the 2022-2023 academic year. We have also dedicated time for hands-on STEM projects for our PreK classroom and incorporated our Kindergarten friends into Genius Hour. The schedule may be modified but we feel the current schedule allows for full core curriculum & project work, additional special classes, and genius hour.
